Last night before we had dinner, we thought we could watch another movie before having the last meal of the day. We already watched “The Purge” and it left a not so good feeling inside me, so I suggested we watch another one to erase the images the movie left on me. And so we decided to play “After Earth” starring Will Smith and his son Jaden.
Now I have this habit of picking up the inspirational words of the character every time I watch a movie and despite the unfavorable reviews this movie has been given, it will still join the roster on my list of “movies to watch” because of what Captain Cypher (Will Smith) told his son who was on a mission to recover the other beacon 100 kilometers away from where their aircraft crashed landed. Kitai ( Jaden Smith) has to trail the dangerous terrain of forest and rivers of the new earth with evolved animals that could kill him just so he could signal for help.
All three of us who were watching, my eldest son, my husband, and I was quite moved by Captain Cypher when he motivated his son by telling him the following words, “fear is not real. Fear is the product of thoughts you create, but do not misunderstand me, danger is very real. But fear is a choice.”
Hubby even looked at our son and reiterated it to our firstborn saying, “you see, fear is a choice.” I just love it when they could relate to my way of watching. Movies are great, they don’t just entertain, they can touch your very being by stirring your very soul. Most especially when you’re going through some challenges that exactly communicates how you feel. I couldn’t say it any better.
Fear is not all bad. Fear can make us prudent and protect us from real danger but imaginary fear can prevent us from becoming our best. Our potential are limitless, yet our fear limits us.

It would be nice to hear from you…
