Burger please! Make mine tuna…

2 days ago, tired of his grilled chicken, steamed fish, and egg spinach omelette , hubby was on his quest for another healthy recipe.

Browsing Mens Fitness site, he found one.  The next thing I knew, I had the recipe in my hands ready to whip the Muscle Building Tuna Burger.  I’m not fond of tuna, but I’m all out for any healthy alternatives.

We did not have any fresh tuna, so we opted for canned tuna in water.  Surprisingly, it tasted great!  The kids loved it.

Hubby decided to have it a go and requested the same menu for his lunch the next day.

Today’s Tuna Burger is a little different.  Instead of using canned tuna in water, I chose hot and spicy canned tuna.  I figured, it will make my kitchen life a little better and faster if I don’t have to worry about the flavor by adding hot sauce, salt, and pepper.

Mommies nowadays have this need for speed.  Well, for a good reason that I don’t want to spend the rest of the morning in the kitchen.  Lots of things to do but that’s another story…

So Let’s start with the ingredients:

  • 1 cup Tuna ( canned or fresh)
  • 1/3 cup minced onion
  • 1/3 cup minced celery
  • 2 tbsp oats
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Note:  Original recipe includes 1 tbsp mayonnaise.  We decided to do away with mayonnaise to make it healthier, since we are already using canned tuna.

Instructions:

  1. Combine the tuna, minced onion, minced celery, egg, and hot sauce.
  2. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Heat a non-stick pan or skillet over medium fire.
  4. Form mixture into patties.
  5. Cook until patties turn golden brown on one side, and turn it over.
  6. When patties are solid, remove from the pan and serve hot!

Note:  Kids will prefer tuna in water.  If you prefer spicy flavored canned tuna, no need to add hot sauce, salt, and pepper.

Quick and easy, yet healthy.  🙂tuna burger5
