DESIRE TO UNDERSTAND THE BIBLE
My 32nd day of listening to the Bible in a Year podcast by Fr. Mike Schmitz and it has been a constant revelation. Every day, I have a lot of takeaways and the best part is that I’m listening to the podcast with my whole family.
For years, I’ve been wanting to read the Bible from cover to cover and every year I fail. I never got past the Book of Numbers. We weren’t successful as a family and it has become a chore even for me. I became disinterested with the names, the statistics, and the bunch of information that I can’t quite understand the significance of.
There was even a year that we stopped reading altogether because I find it difficult to explain, albeit understand the scriptures myself. I’m bothered by all the scandals that happened with God’s chosen people in Genesis and I can’t process the stories. My son even asked me how could God allow bad things to happen like that, or how come the chosen people make bad and adulterous decisions in their life. So time and time again, though we are still very consistent with our morning and evening prayer as a family, the Bible reading stopped.
THE PROMPTING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
As a homeschooling parent, I feel like our morning and evening prayer is not enough. I want to evangelize my own family. I want to catechize my children. Proverbs says, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” *
My question to myself was, how can I teach my children when I don’t even know better? It’s like the blind leading the blind.
So God answered my prayer by introducing me to the Bible in a Year Podcast by Fr. Mike Schmitz
GOD MEETS US WHERE WE ARE
For years, I asked God for a person who will give us clarity with the Scriptures. Since God is the God of all times and seasons, and a God who talks and meets us where we are, He provided me with this YouTube podcast that reads the Bible every day for 365 days and gives us a clear perspective of the texts written more than 2000 years ago.
It happened out of the blue when my friend Jill sent me a YouTube video link with Fr. Mike Schmitz explaining Who You Are vs. Who You’re Called to Be. I just loved the video so much that I started binge watching all of Fr. Mike’s videos. After which, I came upon his Bible in a Year podcast.
I have my own Mom in Ponytail YouTube Channel, and God knows I prefer watching videos on this platform than anywhere else. Thus, He provided me with what I needed at the exact venue where I’m at.
Special thanks to my dear friend in Canada, Jill Vicente for introducing me to Fr. Mike Schmitz. She was God’s instrument to my answered prayer. May God bless her and her family more.
