What a journey! It’s been 16 years. My love for homeschooling goes beyond teaching academics now. I really miss the reading lessons, the first numbers, and the fun activities that we had. I’m in the season where I can look back. I wish that I could turn back time to the good old days of ABCs. It has been a lifestyle to me that I’ve missed the routine that we used to have.
My youngest, who is now in grade 9, prefers to study on her own. It has been difficult letting go. Stepping back as a teacher-Mommy was a challenge at first. I stopped teaching her when she moved up to grade 7. I stopped teaching but I never stopped homeschooling.
Did I do well during their formative years? Maybe. Maybe not. It hasn’t been easy. There was a lot of sweat, high blood pressures, and tears of frustration. But throughout those challenges, our family continued to move forward, moving on with homeschooling.
Now that most of them are adults, they have started to make their own adult mistakes. Some mistakes are even grave ones. We can’t help but think that these errors could have been handled worse. This would occur without the kind of relationship that surpasses all errors made.
So if there is one homeschooling by-product that our family has been benefiting and enjoying nowadays, it is the kind of reward that is very evident. It’s RELATIONSHIP. It’s the way my kids relate to each other. The way they behave towards each other. The respect that they give one another. The way they talk to us, parents. I have been more thankful for all those homeschooling years, albeit the many difficulties.
No, they’re not the smartest of kids. They’re not the most behaved kids. They’re not even the most talented kids on the block. But they have the closest sibling relationship that I see. The hugs and the kisses we enjoy everyday is more than enough to get me through the day.
Our family may not have the perfect relationship, but it has been very rewarding. HOMESCHOOLING and PRAYER has been a big part of it all.
Thank you God for homeschooling. Thank you God for leading me to CFA Homeschool 16 years ago!

It would be nice to hear from you…
