In the morning, long before dawn, he got up and left the house and went off to a lonely place and prayed there.

Mark 1:35

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Psalm 46:10

I can’t let this day pass by without sharing the most enlightening homily I’ve ever heard from Father Michael Della Penna of The Catholic TV Network. This is the online mass that we consistently attend to everyday.

With all due respect to Fr. Della Penna, I am transcribing some of his words that deserves to be repeated, read, and meditated.

“… part of His (Jesus) life that we least immitate or we most neglect… is the part that he goes off into the silence to PRAY. Just think about that, when was the last time you STOPPED and Just LISTENED?

…what Jesus would do often is to regularly go off into the SOLITUDE just to be with the FATHER to strengthen that relationship, to deepen that intimacy with God. … I was thinking that if He (Jesus) needed to do it, how much more do I need to get away from everybody and everything in order just to be?

….God often really does speak in a small little whispers in the SILENCE, …Sometimes we are afraid of the silence. We don’t want to go there.

… that’s precisely where our Lord is. Cacophony of noise, we prevent ourselves from hearing the WORD OF GOD.

…Find God in the SILENCE. Blaise Pascal actually said,

“All of humanity’s problems stem from man’s inability to sit quietly in a room alone.”

– Blaise Pascal

…talk about disease…we have anxiety.

…how about this last minute, close your eyes, and listen to these words from Psalm 46…

BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD
BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM
BE STILL AND KNOW
BE STILL
BE

– Fr. Michael Della Penna

“Silence- is a dispositionof wanting to listen…and above all, where one opens the soul to God.” -Fr. Francis Ongkingko
